Hi Chris & Will!

This very moment--well, to be precise, the prior
moment--I'm reading Letters to Salinger. I'm up to
page 71.

Chris, I really enjoyed your opening
introduction-letter to the reader. It was fun reading
about your love affair with the U.S. Mail. The
introduction also was informative about the genesis of
the book. Thanks for thinking it up! (The idea of the
book, that is.)

Oddly, so far, the letter addressed to Salinger that
has moved me the most is the one by Molly McQuade,
that one about, of all things, parentheses in Seymour
an Introduction. I never could get into that story,
especially on the heels of one of my alltime
favorites, Raise High the Roofbeam Carpenters.
(Parenthetically, that story contains my favorite
Salinger letter--Boo Boo's.) But Molly McQuade has
written such a beautiful letter, I almost want to call
it a meditation, perhaps a poem, that I think I really
owe it to her to try Seymour an Introduction again.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the
book.

Bye!

Midge
