Angus -- I don't know if there's a good web resource. You may want to try
the book _Derrida for Beginners_ by Jim Powell. Even that's going to be
tough, though.

Daniel -- a good critique, in my case, means something that gives you
insight you into the subject you didn't have before. I don't see Derrida as
setting out teaching people to do literary criticism. I don't see him as a
literary critic. He's a philosopher that showed us a new angle on
language.

John Omlor can tell you a lot more about this than I.

Now that I've just read his post I see he did :). I was going to respond,
like John, saying that Derrida never said that "words can mean whatever you
want them to me." People make that inference from his theory, but that is
not the content of his theory at all. He's really engaged in a very moral
project.

John -- well, of course I knew that you knew better than that. And I
believe you about Derrida's opinion of "deconstruction" -- egad. A victim
of his own work. Reminds me of that Red Hot Chili Peppers video with Weird
Al.

Levi -- I think we tend to digress here because Salinger's actually
published so little. Someone has to come in with specific ideas about
Salinger that haven't already been batted around constantly to get a
Salinger discussion going, or something new has to come out like a book by
Maynard or Margaret or something like that.

I love the music discussion and the names of bands I'm picking up :)
