In one of his earliest roles -- perhaps his first -- he appeared in an
off-Broadway drama called "Dancing in the End Zone." According to the
news reports of the time, his father AND mother made it to see him. I
recall thinking, at the time, of how the father of both Matt and Zooey must
have felt about *that* one, and of what Bob Dylan once termed (in another
context "a simple twist of fate."
Any writer who has created a character and then sees some aspect of that
character come to life feels at least a little bit odd about it.... Or
satisfied.
