Hello! I'm a radio producer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto. I'm currently preparing an hour-long radio documentary that is scheduled to be broadcast coast-to-coast-to-coast in Canada (and around the world on the world wide web) on March 12, 1999. It's called "The Holden Caulfield Fan Club" and I'm looking for people who might be willing to participate. It's not necessary to be a CATCHER scholar. In fact, it's probably best if you aren't a scholar. I'm looking for fans, who can talk candidly about their feelings for Holden.... Where do I come into all this? Well, a look at the list of documentaries I've produced in the past year will give you some idea of my eclecticism.... A year ago, I was working in Jerusalem. I ended the year in Russia.... In between, I did pieces about Paul Robeson, Jackie Robinson, Cyberpioneers, 1848, Han Suyin and Che Guevara--to name just a few. The first book that I remember staying up all night to finish was CATCHER IN THE RYE. Last week, I learned for the first time that it was published in July of 1951--when I was still on a maternity ward. This programme will be a labour of love. I'm hoping to include J. P. Kinsella (who--as everyone, of course, knows--included JDS in "Shoeless Joe", which was ultimately transmogrified into "Field of Dreams"....)... I'll have Sara Sheard (who did an album of Salinger-inspired music....).... I'd be grateful for any other suggestions.... But I'd be most grateful for volunteers. Please simply e-mail me some description of your attraction for Holden/CATCHER..... If you feel you might like to participate in the documentary, please include a telephone number so that we can discuss the details. I'll be waiting to hear from you soon. Thanks in anticipation, Paul Kennedy kennedyp@toronto.cbc.ca
