Jason,

Taught *Crime and Punishment* just a year ago and searched through the
translations beforehand. For me, anyway, the best one far and away is an
elegant translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. I love the
pace of the prose and the intensity they manage to recreate in English. The
whole experience of reading this translation, first by myself and then with a
group that was carried away by it, was truly moving.

BTW, the same couple naw has similarly nice translations of other Dost.
masterworks as well.

The *C&P* they've done is available in a nice paperback edition as a First
Vintage Classic Edition, March 1993. The Original hardcover is by Knopf in
'92. The ISBN for the paperback is 0-679-73450-3. I'm pretty sure you can
find it at Amazon.

Enjoy,

--John
