This next bit is part of a really old thread, but that is because I am
cursed by the time delay on Britiah release dates for films. I just saw
Dogma, and I thought it was great. It's not hardcore philosophy or anything,
but I thought it raises some interesting ideas.
Anyway, too much time neglecting my studies :-).

Yeah, see, Lucy-Ruth, I like your point of view. I respect people who don't
believe because they have no reason to, yet are open to the possibility. The
only reason TO believe, in my opinion, is out of a direct personal experience
-- not a rational argument of some kind.
I'm really replying because just two days ago I heard Dogma's director
interviewed on the radio. The guy is a devout Roman Catholic...it was a trip
hearing him talk. He sees faults in the Catholic Church but still believes,
of course. However, he had little good to say about Catholic media watchdog
groups that criticized the film.
He said they didn't like the film because of what it said about Catholicism,
not because of what it said about God. He said the film was overwhelmingly
positive about God, but did criticize the church, so he was complaining about
the fact that these people cared more about the church than they did about
God.
It was interesting...
