Having just spent too long on "Gripping Reading" (and getting only five
skimpy paragraphs) and after sending it off and receiving via the ether
the $64,000 question (see above), I can only mumble my assent to most of
Cecilia's reasons and add I am a fish because JDS was my first love as a
reader; because through JDS I encountered Som Ranchan and his family;
because JDS's books ushered me into the 4th World/Dimension of Literature;
because by following name-droppings in his works it took me to writers and
people and things I might never have met (including the poet I love most in
this world) ; because the Vedanta Bookshop in of all places Hollywood, CA
became one of my favorite destinations for several years; because his
characters have lived, do live and I hope will live in my mind, imagination
and dreams; because being in the Bananafish Pond has been a godsend (though
at times frustrating); because certain off-list correspondences arising from
the Pond I cherish; because I believe there is an eleven-year-old lurker,
gender unknown, who one day will write us all under the table; and,
finally, because I am grateful to Tim for wanting and willing to keep it all
going.
