I have been on a small sabbatical from this list because of personal distractions and some of the generally silly or rude behavior that I saw starting up. I've got several dozen messages to go through, and probably won't get to read them for a while, and I'm out of town (in San Antonio, Texas -- any Bananafish subscribers here?) for a week, so my time online will be sharply curtailed. I think the book-discussion list is a great, separate idea. I like the name "BananaBooks"; nobody has said that it stinks, so I propose that we go ahead and make it. Rather, *I* will, since I am the person who manages this stuff for NYU, a school gracious enough to give us a home **and** distinguished enough to have produced Will Hochman, in his Ph.D. incarnation. I will send an explicit message to the list when it's ready. Please DO NOT try to subscribe to it until I release the news. I have enough mail to wade through already, I don't need to have bunches of "list not found" error messages. If anyone has private concerns or complaints, please send them to this address (tim@roughdraft.org) and we can discuss them. I gather there have been a couple of name-calling episodes, based on private mail. I sure hope that this has stopped by now, and if it hasn't, I'd like to gently ask people who want to bicker to take it to private mail. The list doesn't need it. And I (after spending a period of time not unlike Franny on the family couch) strongly discourage it. Cheers to everybody! --tim o'connor
