Sounds like one of the Hedonists.  For those of you who are unfamiliar,
the Hedonists got a bad rap in pop culture.  They advocated pleasure as
the objective of life, yes.  But they also stipulated that carnal
pleasures were lesser than intellectual pleasures, ei sex is good, but
solving math problems is better.

as for a particular Hedonist, well I've forgotten all their names. 


on second thought Thor might be refering to Plato's allegory of the cave.
A mad sees the true world and can't go back into the shadows.
