I am plugging through the uncollected stories and can't say for sure yet what I like best and consider the worst. More and more when I think about these stories I somehow feel the need to remind myself of the era in which they were written. Soft Boiled Sargeant, for instance, is one that I like alot. I know it is all Reader's Digesty (I agree with the term Thor. That was not a shot.) but I still liked it. That, I think, was Salinger's intentions. I mean, O. Henry's Gift of the Magi is as trite and contrived and expected as they come but it is still a nice story regardless. The Holden excerpts I could do without. Hapworth, so far, is my favorite and I suspect it will remain so after all is said and done. Glad you had a good weekend Thor. (I hope everyone else did as well.) -Jake -----Original Message----- From: Thor Cameron <my_colours@hotmail.com> To: bananafish@lists.nyu.edu <bananafish@lists.nyu.edu> Date: Wednesday, June 02, 1999 3:09 PM Subject: Re: The Worst > >Hey, Guys, I'll extend the invitation one more time: >The Hang Of It is the Worst Salinger.
