FROM: Bernd Wahlbrinck 06.06.1999 18:58:53 MET GERMANY bernd.wahlbrinck@t-online.de _________________________________________________________ According to Warren French (J.D.Salinger, Revisited, p.35) - a book, by the way, which I recommend to everybody who is interested in in-depth analysis of JDS's works - there are 2 early short stories in which Holden Caulfield appears: "I'm Crazy" (Collier's, 1945), and "Slight Rebellion Off Madison" (New Yorker, 1946). In contrast to the Catcher, these 2 stories are apparently written in the third person, "thus lacking the poignancy and immediacy of the final version" (French). This sounds very interesting indeed to me, and so I was wondering whether anybody possibly knows if there is any way of getting access to these stories?! Bernie
