i suppose that the only reason i care to comment on that point at all is my new realization that it is extremely politically incorrect (which in itself seems to not matter anymore) to call the irish british or the language celtic, gaelic or anything else but irish. but maybe someone with a little more factual knowlage could shed some more educated light?
