I was read the whole series when I was four or five years old by a literature-loving mother whose patience has been more than fully rewarded. And I understood the whole thing, it was the series I graduated onto after Narnia, for which I must have been quite small because I remember still being in preschool when I went to the bookstore and asked for `The Silver Chair'. `Oh no, no, dear, you must mean `The Wishing Chair' by Enid Blyton'! the store lady said. How stupid is she? thought I, and proceeded to explain the entire plot of the Narnia series to her. I left with book and dignity in hand and hopefully a bit more respect for the intelligence of young 'uns from that lady.
