Egads, that is the first time I have heard "meths" since that fantabulous movie, "Withnail and I," wherein one of the title characters, after bemoaning the lack of booze in the house, drinks a can of lighter fluid and declares it "far superior to meths." (I'm paraphrasing; I can't find my &^%*^ copy of the screenplay to make it and the context more precise.) Of course, this message is completely irrelevant to JDS. There's not a single reference to him or his work in it, but it's easily on my list of absolutely favorite movies. Or screenplays; the last edition had a new introduction by the author, which was one of the more bittersweet recollections I can recall ... in fact, not unlike Buddy talking about one or two details of Seymour, as he tries to create a portrait of his brother. --tim (coming to this conversation, and nearly everything else on the list this week, quite late)
