Hello Bananafish, I've been getting the list messages for a while, yet haven't posted any of my own. I'm currently writing my American Literature Senior Honors thesis on "Catcher," looking at the critical and cultural evolution of the novel, while offering my own reading of the novel. The critical section looks into the initial ambivalence, early Sixties embrace, and steady decline into critical obscurity of the novel. The cultural section will focus on the author, the book as a censorship issue, instances of the novel in pop culture, and Holden as compared to youth of the generations after him. The whole project (I'm 40 pages into it) should end up being well over 100 pages. I've garnered most all of the information out there, but was wondering if anyone on the list could offer any advice or help? Also, has anyone tried to make the pilgrimage to Cornish? I'm from Boston, and go to Middlebury College, so it's a convenient drive. I'm not interested in badgering Salinger, and it wouldn't matter if I saw him either. It simply seems like a necessity of my project, as if the sleepy NH town were a mecca of sorts. Thanks, Brian Harrison Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
