Now asking what a section man is with this subject header hurts, but I'm
not far from it...

A Section Man is actually a graduate instructor who covers a section of a
large course tuaght by professors.  The negative spin comes from those who
promote their worthless ideas as academic gold.  More generally "Section
Man" (or woman I suppose) has become associated with  how professors
professionalize themselves by milking their fields for academic flotsam
and jetsum.

I don't think Buddy Glass could illustrate the term, but Lane C will do,
or will, if you have to...
