I saw her too (at a rock festival in 1997) and yes, Lenny Kaye was on guitar. Talk about transfixing. There were people all around me in the audience crying, just whispering `I can't believe I'm watching Patti Smith!!!' She's much more of an underground thing over here. I wish Tom Waits would tour, I love him to bits but to my knowledge he's never come to Australia. I'm hanging out for Neil Young, too - there's always rumours he'll come one day. P.S. My mother has always told me the legend of the Bob Dylan concert at Sydney Showground in the pouring rain in the '60's. You had to walk across the ground on bricks because the whole thing was flooded and they actually had to bring in new rules about outdoor performances after it because the conditions had been so ghastly. Fantastic performance though I'm told - around his folk-rock period.
