Yes, I always thought that it was actually Orchises Press who approached
Salinger about the publication, and not the other way around. I think if
Salinger had decided, as some here have suggested, to remind everyone that
he's still absent, I think he would have at least offered some small new
morsel - because imagine the stir that would have caused! Think of the
`Publishing Coup of the Millenium' headlines! Then again, he was probably
wise in choosing Hapworth because it's caused enough of a fuss already
without even being published! If that was his intention, the stir that it
caused already achieved it and he didn't have to lift a finger. I doubt
very much that the publication would be for financial reasons. Catcher
still sells millions a year, and his lifestyle doesn't sound too expensive
(:
