I agree - I think we are making different points, but they are not mutually exclusive. The idea I am getting at is that reality is not only structured by language, but is structured differently by different languages. The theory you are discussing, that of (I think) language at at it's most basic level being the differentiation of self vs. other, is not a theory that i'm familiar with. The bit that you discussed does makes sense to me, even though I had never come across it. I don't know enough about this theory or languages other than english to say that they are all predicated on a structure of difference, but I assume you are basing that on someone's facts.
