One more movie question and then I'll quit

Did anyone ever see the movie 'Affliction'? It caused a huge fight between
my best friend and I and we ended up disliking each other for a long period.
I thought it was a stinky piece of crap with unbelieveable characters. He
thought it was a crowning achievement depicting a man's decent into madness.

Okay, this is something truely far-the-hell-away from my heart, "Buffalo
'66". Could someone please explain why people like that movie. About
15minutes into the film I was pissed at the writers for being so
preposterous. The characters were completely unbelievable. This is what
is shoved down our throats in the first 15 minutes: Guy gets out of jail,
looks like crap. Wanders into a dance studio and verbally assults some
girl. Then he asks nicely for a quarter for the phone. She gives him
one. Then he blows her off again. He makes up some crazy story for his
parents that involves his "wife." He recruites, no takes the girl hostage
to make her pretend to be his wife. He's physically violent to her, and
she has plenty of time to get away, but doesn't and instead decideds to
help him. ? Then they get to the parents' house and the mother is
watching a recorded football game. Silence, dysfunction abound. Ok, but
then we're beat over the head with it. Mother forgets kid is deathly
alergic to chocolate. Doesn't remember he doesn't drink soda. And best
of all, they only have ONE picture of his childhood. If this doesn't
sound rediculious enough, then see the film. I forced myself to fall
asleep soon after this. It was either that or I was going to wait for the
film credits to go by, get the writer's name and take him off my world
wide christmas card list.
