Hi Maybe I'm stupid but I think you're overcomplicating the story. To me it sounds like he's writing the story when he's older and he's kind of making fun of himself when he was 19, how pretentious and stupid he was. The whole tone of the story seems that way to me. maybe I'm not getting 'the deeper meaning'.
