Writers on the Internet

• Who is one of the best writers of his generation? If you don't know the work of Madison Smartt Bell, you should. We hear that the World Wide Web is growing exponentially. Bell's body of work seems to grow faster. Aside from his fiction, Bell has also authored Narrative Design: A Writer's Guide to Structure, a first-rate textbook for fiction writers.

• And who is one of the quietest, more elusive writers you might encounter -- and a distinct stylist, too? Dip into the public journal of Holly Pappas, who teaches writing in New England and writes (in public) about "Thinking, Teaching, Writing."

• Perhaps you awakened this morning, your eyes burning with anguish and anger. What would help more than to dip into a selection from Dubliners? (See Read/Fiction/James Joyce/Dubliners.)

• Literature Wholesale: If you have to read literature online, you have a small bookstore at your fingertips at eserver.org ("accessible online publishing"). The server currently offers over 30,000 works in the arts and the humanities. So, browse already!

• The J.D. Salinger mailing list, bananafish, is archived online! (Join the list by sending mail to majordomo@roughdraft.org with a blank subject line, and a message that says subscribe bananafish.)
