Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyest

Speaking of music (sorry to drag this thread on), one other song with
a Salinger reference...

Angelene

My first name Angelene
Prettiest mess you've ever seen
Love for money is my sin
Any man calls, I'll let him in

Rose is my colour, and white
Pretty mouth, and green my eyes
I see men come and go
But there'll be one who will collect
my soul and come to me

Two thousand miles away
He walks upon the coast
Two thousand miles away
It lays open like a road

Dear God, life ain't kind
People getting born and dying
But I've heard there's joy untold
Lays open like a road in front of me

My first name Angelene

Song found on 'Is This Desire?', 'Angelene Promo CD', and 'Playing By Heart
Soundtrack'
Written by Polly Jean Harvey
Arranged by Mick Harvey

There is a whole site that talks about it and the Salinger allusion.

Does anyone know if the poem originally talked about in "Pretty Mouth and
Green my Eyes" is an actual poem? It seems to be an incredibly popular line.
I put it in my search engine and I even found a man in my town who paints
extremely dark boxes with beautiful paintings on the outside and and words
and sayings on the inside. One of them, a balck and white picture of what
looks like a woman, has the line from the story inscribed on the inside.
