Yes, I agree that we are moving more and more in the polysemic direction you
describe where the ever-increasing dissemination of texts is in part a
consequence of a rapidly changing set of related technologies. I think what
aroused my concern in this case was Scottie's decisive claim that those who
produce works that call for, as you put it, "a strong and wide reading effort
that some won't aspire to," that authors like Hegel and Heidegger and Derrida
and now apparently the later Joyce, among others, simply "can't write."

That, I must say, still seems to me to be an unfortunate phrase.

But I am more than satisfied with the distinctions as you set them out.
