I agree and I disagree. I bought Catcher when I was 13 and by the time I was
14 I was a full-fledged fan. But I can't imagine any of my friends then
liking Salinger. I mean, how many high schoolers even read on their free
time?

very true. As much as I love his other work, I don't think it would be as
popular as it is now(is it even popular?) if there was no Catcher.
