Thanks Scottie, I've not yet read the piece but I have my probs with
"answers" to lit probs that offer a system of thought as THE key to the
text...Although your post is more of a direct rejection of Jung-"ism," and
to be honest, a rejection of LSD to "cure" mental probs (as someone who
tripped in the early seventies, I can report great enjoyment and forgotten
insight and a conviction that youth kept me sane but ingesting such
psychoactive drugs now would make me even crazier...), I think you are
right to reject the fact of an underground tunnel between jung and
holden...but I am not certain assigning holden a freudian subway line is
any better...James Bryan does much to support the freudian link and I tend
to agree with many of his points, but I'm hesitant to make the link
directly.  I have the same prob with thinking Vedanta Hinduism can explain
