Dear Jim and all,
I appreciate you taking on the task of making this a public gathering,
but I think that perhaps your directions are a bit vague. After all, there
are many entrances into Penn Station, and the one you suggest is by no means
the most obvious. Furthermore, I walked by last Thursday and was unable to
guess which of the many, many stores you were refering to. May I suggest that
whoever wishes to come simply follow the signs to the Long Island
Railroad (LIRR) which is indeed in the north east corner of the building
near Seventh Ave, and 34th St. There, at the foot of some escalators, near
where they have a large rack of schedules, is a fairly clearly marked
"ticket passenger waiting area" that even has, gasp, chairs.
I hope to be there at 10:15 looking confused, but that is not a very
good distinguishing mark in New York. Then again, if the craziness at work
has not settled down by then (it may last until Y3K, at this rate) you may
have to simply raise your glass of Java to me along with the rest of the
missing bananafish.
all the best,
with cold feet,
Mattis
