My personal favourite is "Just Before the War with the Eskimos"...

I remember when I first read Salinger... It was in high school, and
in English we had to read this strange-titled story "A Perfect Day for
Bananafish"... I don´t recall whether I liked it or not at the time,
but I didn´t understand very much of it...

Years later I wanted to read some of the books that were often mentioned
to me or in the media, like "The Little Prince", "Farewell To Arms", and
"The Catcher in the Rye"...

I immediately fell in love with the first and the latter... I borrowed
all the books the library had by Saint-Exupery, and after that I turned
to Salinger...

Having already read CITR, I turned to F&Z and after that RHTRC...
When I finally got around to reading Bananafish again I almost
cried when Seymour killed himself... I felt I knew the Glasses
so well...

I´ve got to read all those stories again soon...

I´m not sure which point I´m trying to make - maybe that you
shouldn´t leave out Esmé just because the students don´t like it...
If you think Esmé suits the teaching context better - go for it...
