I think we may indeed be approaching the End of Days.
Never in my worst nightmares did I expect to meet
Cecilia Baader, Populist Extraordinaire. Has the gal
who once led us into - & out of - some of the tightest
corners ever contested by the Brigade of Guards, has
she now been reduced to touting for the easy plaudits
of the rabble? Oh Charlie, say it isn't so.
How many votes, Cec, did you expect to be cast
in favour of compromise? In this great company of
pea-green incorruptibles? From Damn-the-Torpedoes
O'Connor? Or Press-on-Regardless Kubica? Or Death-
or Glory Kennedy? Give-me-Liberty-or-give-me-Death
Hochman? Loved-I-not-Honour-Morine?
Well, I'll give you a vote. I vote, not for the emasculation,
but the downright banning followed by mass incineration
of the entire Narnia chronicle as the most tedious, most
outrageous confidence trick ever perpetrated by the Jesus
boys on whole generations of children - with the unwitting
assistance of their gullible parents.
