Ah, thanks! I knew I had read it somewhere, but had forgotten where.
It seems odd in this "information age" to imagine that an entire book
could be typeset and bound into advance reading copies without having
it leak out SOMEWHERE. One would think that someone at, say, Little,
Brown would be able to confirm or deny the fact, if they had to do it
anonymously. It simply seems impossible to envision a JDS book
reaching that stage yet remaining unknown to this day.
Makes me wish I knew someone at Little, Brown! Alas, I do not.

Thanks for the explanation. Of course (hopeless pop-culture ignoramus
that I am) I still don't get the reference, but the next time I'm in a
big record store I'll leaf through the Beach Boys section and see if I
can turn up a reference to your online name.
