If you look at the left as wanting to push more resources and power into
community trusts, then it should come as no surprise that U.S has a
harder time with this idea than European countries. The citizens of your
average European nation tend to have much more in common with each other
(history, race, culture) than U.S. citizens do, which makes sharing a
little easier to swallow. I'll bet Europeans would suddenly appear very
right-wing if faced with the idea of pooling power and resource across
national boundaries.
Those damned party-pooping Puritans probably have something to do with
this as well.
