Alex -- I would say "Hi Fidelity" by Nick Hornby, but you've probably read it. If you have, then you know Nick's trouble keeping these sorts of lists down to size. Anyway, let's assume you've read it (and if you haven't, it's great). So let's say "The God of Small Things" by Arundhati Roy (deservedly won the Booker Prize) and "Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha" (ditto on the Booker). I would also say "The Beach" by Alex Garland and "My Russian Love" by Daniel Franck, but I'm out of choices. (: Rick
