Not sure which one is true, but "first to take" makes sense, if you think 
about it.  That would be first to take the throne, wouldn't it?
There are three entimologies of the term "mind your P's and Q's", all 
equally legitimate.  Both of these may be equal contributing factors, too to 
the word "Prince".
