I love DD Smith, too. It kind of carried me along without too much enthusiasm, but then that epiphany in the storefront window -- man, that's good stuff. I have to read it again, but I would say I'm definitely off the fence. (Although, without the benefit of having re-read it again yet, it seems like maybe that scene is the entire reason I like it: kind of the same way I feel about the title of the previous story, "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes." I love that title so much -- maybe so much that I can't see clear through to the actual content of the story. I guess that sounds Pretty Dense and I should Clean My Eyes, but what the hell. We should definitely start a thread about that porcelain, though, and the idea of "epiphany": Joycean or Zen? Is there a difference? Is there any way to have this discussion without religion? Please? :) rick
