If a subtitled "Saturday Night Fever" made it >to Iceland in the mid-70's and a *double subtitled* >"King Kong" (original 1933 version) made it to the >mideast or Asia in the '60's (two sets of subtitles >since it was shown to one foreign audience prior) then >'Muriel's...' can certainly have made it to >cosmopolitan Stockholm! :) > >- Ed Yes, and even our acclaimed Swedish high school movie “Fucking Åmål” (which they had to rename “Show me love” for sanitary reasons) found its way to the American cinemas, so there is hope. I really recommend watching Fucking Åmål when and if it comes to “a theater near you”. The story is simple but genuine and well made. I was a long time since I recognized those good old days of high school as I did in this film. And with something most high school films lack: a terrific final scene. Trivia: it was quite funny to hear news broadcasters etc naming the title, some of them actually blushing. In the 1990’s! On the posters, they had to shield off some of the tag lines, especially the one “naming” the film: “Why do we have to live in stupid fucking cock-Åmål” (said by Agnes in the movie). The cock (“kuk”) reference was too strong even for Stockholm. Faithful to my copy-and-paste habit, I will give you some details from IMBD: Foreign films ’99: SHOW ME LOVE is at heart the story of Elin and Agnes. They are two adolescent Swedish girls exploring their sexuality--leaning toward lesbianism, but tempest-torn. Both have a love/hate relationship with their family members. Agnes has an especially humiliating birthday party and both confront peer pressure, boredom, and cruelty in various school settings. They yearn to get far away to the excitement of Stockholm and the adult world that seems eons away. Even with cell phones, SCREAM posters, and raves, their town of Amal strikes them as out of the loop of what's happening as they struggle to come out. href: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0150662 ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
