Let's not confuse 'subconscious', the Freudian construct, with 'unconscious', which can be used to describe any brain process that is not subject to introspection, such as those processes responsible for keeping your heart beating. There aren't many scientists who would deny the existence of unconscious cognition. The real controversy is in how intelligent or sophisticated unconscious cognition can be. -Sean
