Sonny Since you sent this to the list, and another to my home, I thought I should at least post this reply so the other bananafishes don't think I am heir to the theory/code that solves the $64K question: why did Seymour kill himself. In short, I don't *think* I sent you mail re this subject--an email on Rilke, yes. Recently on the list I have shot my mouth off re the difference between the Bananafish Seymour and the Glass Saga Seymour (and Teddy as Teddy), but fortunately no one has taken me seriously. If I had to venture any kind of statement re the suicide question, it would be very, very mundane: each and every reader must seek his or her own answer. And where that answer is, and what that answer will be, I can't say. Will write you more at length to your private email very soon. --Bruce PS I agree with your PS below. -----Original Message----- From: Sundeep Dougal <holden@giasdl01.vsnl.net.in> To: bananafish@lists.nyu.edu <bananafish@lists.nyu.edu> Date: Tuesday, September 21, 1999 9:35 AM Subject: The Definitive Salinger Resource >Bruce, > >On Matt's promptings, we did start work on a FAQ that you know is >lying abandoned at > >http://members.tripod.com/~SundeepDougal/faq.html > >and I do remember your sending me mail on Rilke which I was able to >locate just now, but I do also have vague recollections of your >sending me another mail (which unfortunately I cannot locate.
