will, Thanks for your indulgence of my 20 minutes of tongue-in-cheek. You're in Hartford? (Surely you meant thirteen stone markers--unless the 14th is for title and author.) I agree re your assessment of Harmonium. Out in 1923 when W.S. was 44. I do think the lateness of his first book pub. helps the quality of the product. I think it is interesting how Stevens seems, with each passing decade, to stand head and shoulders above American 20th century poetry. I was never a big reader of him; it is a huge gap I need to fill. (For my Orals I chose Pound.) --Bruce -----Original Message----- From: William Hochman <wh14@is9.nyu.edu> To: bananafish <bananafish@lists.nyu.edu> Date: Thursday, September 23, 1999 5:00 AM Subject: Re: 9 Ways of Looking at a Bananafish >Hey, that was fun Bruce--here in Hartford, they are talking of setting up >14 stone markers with each stanza...and I have to admit that in my best >bookcase Stevens snuggles just a shelf below Jerome's two...I love >_Harmonium_.
