My "academic lifer" crack was purely respectful--you've been where I'll
probably never have the patience, or capacity, to get. I figured you'd be
able to fill out my comments, having run the last leg of the marathon, to
which miles seem to be added every time I round a corner. Lifer in a
psychological sense?
My (admittedly limited) experience with smaller, private schools suggests
that a better student-to-teacher ratio doesn't necessarily mean a better
education. Of course, in the end there's no simple scheme for determining
which option is better. Again, report speaks goldenly of Patti's
daughter(?--forgive me...), and I assume she's got a great chance at a
good scholarship. I just can't see the use these days in spending 40+
thousand on an undergraduate degree...
