i can't remember the exact ending of rhtrbc, but my memory of the old man
is that of an absolutely delightful character in an absolutely dreary
situation. yet another example of buddy being saved by an unrelated
character (esme). if i ever have to go to another family reunion, i hope
to be so lucky as to escape the insanity by finding a tiny little fellow
who, even in his top hat, doesn't reach the roof of the car.
